Hi — I'm Matt Milburn, a commercial photographer in Cincinnati.
I grew up around the industry, and I've been working on sets for ten years now. It started as a photo assistant job while I was a student at Ohio University, where I earned my bachelor's degree in Commercial Photography and Marketing. After graduation I took just about any job that put me on a large-scale production — building sets, second shooting, working art department, gripping, PA'ing, whatever got me in the room. That meant national spots for brands like Febreze, Swiffer and Shark, working alongside global agencies like Saatchi & Saatchi, Grey and Sterling Brands, and it taught me how a big production actually runs from the inside out.
For the past six years I've been a full-time shooter — most of that as lead of a Fortune 500 company's on-site studio, running the creative, the crew, and the files from capture through delivery. I've led large-scale e-commerce photo and video shoots, and shot for companies like ESPN, DripDrop, HUK and Cintas, along with a number of other Fortune 500 brands.
Approach
The marketing half of my degree is the part that bridges concept and execution on a campaign. I know what a marketing team actually needs once the shoot is over: not one hero frame, but a library that carries across the website, the retail channel, recruiting, social and the sales deck — and that still matches when you call again next quarter.
Capabilities
My work runs across product and packaging, e-commerce, textile and apparel, food, portraits, and industrial and workplace environments.
I'm proficient with Canon, Phase One, Sony and RED camera systems; Profoto, Broncolor, Aputure and Arri lighting; and Capture One and Adobe Creative Cloud from capture through delivery.
